The problem with the factory pinion spacer

The factory GM pinion spacer is a solid-style, one-size component with zero adjustability. The pinion typically remains loose after torquing the nut, forcing repeated disassembly, modification and reassembly to chase the correct preload. Getting it wrong has real consequences — incorrect preload causes inconsistent gear tooth alignment, leading to premature gear wear and eventual gear failure.
